Is this a myth or can you really lose weight by eating more meals?
From my own experience, yes you can lose weight on six meals a day. So now you?re probably thinking I?m on a diet of really healthy food and have cravings all of the time. Not at all, in fact I fell much better than I have forever, and still eat some ?rubbish? foods now and again.
Before I explain how it works, let me briefly tell you why conventional diets don?t work. To lose weight, you must put less calories into your body than you use. To lose weight, you can either eat less calories or exercise to burn more calories.
Most people take the option of consuming less calories, dropping the cake, cutting out fat etc, and dramatically change their diet habits. When the body doesn?t have enough calories it has to use its reserves of fat, but will also take muscle! You may or may not know, that muscle burns fat. Your body also sees the drop in calories as a sign that there may be hard times ahead, and it had better work hard to store fat more effectively, and slow the metabolism down accordingly.
So you go on a diet and lose weight, you?ve survived the hunger pangs and beaten the cravings and feel good about yourself. But now you have less fat burning muscle, and your body is better at storing fat from the food you eat and you have a slower metabolism as well. You eat some ?normal? food and before you know it you?re not back at square one, you?re actually heavier than when you started. You blame the diet, never yourself, and move on to the next diet fad.
The six meals a day diet works by boosting your metabolism, and allowing the body to feel as though there is always a plentiful supply of food. We are all pre-programmed to enjoy high calorie foods ? its instinct, so don?t fell bad about eating!
After you eat, the metabolism increases, so you boost your metabolism 6 times a day. But what should you eat on the six meals a day diet? Well, I try to eat healthily, but honestly find that I can have a bad day and fell like I?ve lost weight the next. I try to do some gentle exercise as well, in the form of walking. I do this first thing in the morning as the benefit of speeding your metabolism here will last for most of the day.
I will eat a sensible breakfast of cereal or oats, maybe some fruit as well washed down with fruit juice or tea / coffee. At about 10am I?ll eat some toast or fruit. At midday its time for a sandwich. Mid afternoon I?ll have some biscuits or maybe a piece of cake (told you I still eat rubbish). For an evening meal I will have a normal meal. Usually meat and vegetables. Not too soon before bed I?ll pick at anything I fancy. Maybe fruit, nuts, sweets even. Not huge quantities, just something to keep me going.
The important thing about the six day diet is that you burn fat, and not muscle. You trick the body into using more calories by increasing you?re metabolism ? the body doesn?t need to burn the muscle.
